Océanne
In moments of massive injustice the complexities of life vanish and only the raw human interaction between two people remains. Day after day in the Healthcare Clinic Moria on Lesvos, Greece, I found myself with someone new who urgently needed a professional, when I was the only one available to sit down with and share the French language. When there was no doctor to translate to, I poured some water and just shared my presence.
Individual helplessness in the face of the inhuman bureaucracies of the European migration regime is mitigated through the stories told and translated and listened to, stories of desperation and stories of trying to find peace.
Sara
On a rainy day. He came asking for a doctor.
They said he was drunk,
Losing temper mixed with panic attack.
He looks directly into my eyes :
Sister! Please save me.
I can’t save you, Sir! I can only help you.
Sara and Océanne built a model of the camp of Moria in Greece, where they both had volunteered and worked over long periods of time. The model shows the camp how it was before it got destroyed by the big fire in September 2020.
