The Space (in)Between
This video explores the relationship between space and values in Germany’s current, postcolonial, migration regime through the removal and dislocation of Olu Oguibe’s “Monument to Strangers and Refugees” in the city of Kassel. What does the monument communicate, whom does it address, why was it taken down? These are some of the questions “The Space In between” seeks to investigate. Through digital tourism aesthetics, this video interrogates the apparatuses of google maps and iPhone photography to simulate the documentation of public space and explore the spaces, or gaps, in between.
